As we prepare to celebrate the 60th Anniversary Cairns Black Marlin Tournament, we’re looking to collect the memories, moments and milestones that have shaped this incredible fishery.

Whether it’s a photograph tucked away in an old album, a piece of video footage, a memorable capture, a favourite crew story, or a tale from life on the reef, we’d love to hear from you.

Your contribution might be from 1966, 2025, or anywhere in between. Every story helps tell the history of the world’s greatest giant black marlin fishery.

I got some spectacular shots of this fish, a nice one for regular angler Bryan.

It was the last day of his trip, so you’d think the next morning Luke would head straight back to the same reef where we raised this fish the day before.

Did we?
…um, nope 😅

He just wasn’t feeling it. So instead, we ran several reefs away and ended up catching three including two more big ones.

That’s the thing about these fish-sometimes the logic says one thing… but experience says another. Experience is the master!💪

Sometimes a photo tells a different story than the one you felt in the moment.
I remember this trip as tough fishing — calm seas, dirty water, long days searching out wide, and coming in late hoping for a bite or two if you were lucky. It felt slow. Frustrating.

But looking back now, going through the trip photos… it was actually a damn good trip. Big fish. The kind you come here to chase.

Funny how your mind can twist things when you’re in it — and only later you see it clearly.

Lately I’ve been feeling a bit like that in general… struggling to find the same enthusiasm I usually have.
 But maybe it’s just another version of the same thing — and I’ll see it differently looking back later?

Some fish just stop you in your tracks. For me it’s the giant black marlin. The colours, the presence… there’s nothing quite like a big black marlin up close. 💙

I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately — not by choice. My computer decided to have a full meltdown back in December, and in true regional Queensland fashion… it took months to sort out (insert sarcasm here).

While everything was safely backed up, actually accessing, editing and sharing photos became near impossible.

Finally I got it back about a week and a half ago — so I’m slowly getting back into it… starting with this beauty.😍 #giantblackmarlin #pelagicgear #marlinseason #cairns #garmin

Time to start the day on my own terms is critical to me — whether I’m on or off the water.

On the boat, I’m always up before first light. That quiet hour to myself is how I get my head in gear for whatever the day might bring.

The bonus? Sunrises like this.
